The Star Rating for Schools tool featured in UNICEF Training of Trainers on Child REsponsive Urban Planning, delivered the Philippines and Paraguay in October.
UNICEF has promoted the training of trainers on Child Responsive Urban Planning in Paraguay, the Philippines and South Africa. The course aims at building capacity for engineers, architects, urban planners, transportation and road safety professionals, to deliver training to students and Urban Specialists to build safe, healthy and inclusive cities for children. It focuses on the development of public spaces, walkability and cycling.
In the Philippines, the course was offered by UNICEF in partnership with the University of Philippines – School for Urban and Regional Planning (UP-SURP). Greg Smith, iRAP Managing Director of Strategic Projects, participated as a speaker and introduced SR4S. UNICEF has been partnering with WHO, University of Philippines – National Centre for Transportation Studies (UP-NCTS), Safe Kids Manila and Automobile Association of the Philippines for a pilot project in which 50 schools have been assessed with support from SR4S.
In Paraguay, Rafaela Machado, Star Rating for Schools Global Coordinator, has introduced SR4S as a monitoring tool for road upgrade projects. The course was offered by UNICEF Paraguay in partnership with ANTSV (National Agency of Transport and Road Safety). The Touring and Automobile Club of Paraguay also presented the results of assessments undertaken with SR4S in Asunción in partnership with UNICEF, ANTSV and the City Hall.
