The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced a $1.25 Billion Grant Opportunity to that can improve safety around schools and on all roads in your community! Their Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program supports projects that can save lives.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Big Money for Safety: This grant provides money to help communities develop plans and make changes to roads (like adding bike lanes or crosswalks) to make them safer for everyone – drivers, walkers, cyclists, and more.
  • Free Tools to Help Your Project: iRAP have free tools like Star Rating for Schools and the Youth Engagement App that can help with your project.
    • Star Rating for Schools (SR4S): This award-winning program helps you measure how safe the route to school is for kids, so you can target areas for improvement.
    • Youth Engagement App: An innovative tool that allows young people to easily identify and report road safety conditions around their schools. YEA helps young people actively participate in improving road safety, giving them a voice in shaping their communities.
    • Other Helpful Tools: We also have tools to assess bike safety and design safer roads from the start.

  • Measure Road Safety: Use our free tools to see how safe the roads around your school and in your community are before and after you make improvements.
  • Plan for Safer Journeys: We can help you develop a data-driven plan to show where to invest in safety improvements in the school community.
  • Write a Winning Grant: Get tips and advice on writing a strong grant proposal to win SS4A funding.
  • SR4S Resources and Training available: We have easily accessible resources available to help you improve road safety around your school communities.
