FIA mobility clubs in the Asia Pacific were given the opportunity to share their experience and main achievements as part of the SR4S Programme at the FIA Region II Roundtable in Chennai, India (5- 8 October 2019).
iRAP’s Managing Director of Strategic Projects Greg Smith provided a keynote speech and led an interactive SR4S tool session and discussion on SR4S projects in FIA Region II.
SR4S Lead Partner, the AIP Foundation shared their work in Vietnam assessing road improvements around schools, achieving star rating upgrades. Read more on this project here.
The session included updates on the experience of the Automobile Association Philippines with pilot school assessments in Manila after they received SR4S training earlier in the year.
The Roundtable event included 50 FIA members from: India, Indonesia, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Cambodia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand.
As a next step, iRAP is supporting FIA Region II in the establishment of a school assessment programme across clubs in the region. FIA Region II aims at leading global efforts of FIA clubs in undertaking SR4S assessments and stimulate regional road infrastructure enhancements prior to the global launch of the SR4S programme, in February 2020.
The FIA Region Roundtables are important opportunities for to share their initiatives and plan the future.
