As part of the Global Road Safety Programme – Star Rating for Schools and the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme 2022, the Automóvil Club de Chile launched their second intervention to improve school environments. The location was a kindergarten and nursey “Las Vizcachitas” in Puente Alto run by Fundación Integra, Chile.
Thanks to the help of Conaset, Comisión Nacional de Seguridad de Tránsito and the Municipality of Puente Alto, road upgrades were made in the streets surrounding the establishment to create safe routes for the transit of children to the bus stops, as well as a raised pedestrian crossing to help reduce the vehicle operating speed to 30km/hour or less. In addition, a series of vertical surface traffic signs were refurbished and roads and sidewalks were painted to make ensure the visibility of preschoolers in the area was enhanced.
These interventions were carried out with the support of the non-profit organization, Espacio Lúdico, who provided the design ideas and worked collectively with Automobile Club de Chile and CONASET to provide the children with safe routes in front of the kindergarten.
