Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) Global Programme Coordinator Rafaela Machado had the opportunity to attend the first ever FIA Region I Coordination Forum for Eastern and Central European Countries (COFO) Road Safety Meeting in Poland last month.

Supported by the FIA Road Safety Grants Programme and kindly hosted by the Polski Związek Motorowy (PZM), the meeting gathered representatives from COFO Member Clubs, local police and city authorities and involved speakers from the FIA and FIA Foundation.

The aim of the meeting was to build capacity and develop a pool of road safety experts in the COFO region.

On the second day of the meeting, Rafaela Machado and Alekandra Goloviova from the FIA presented on the 10 steps of the FIA School Assessment Toolkit which was developed based on the SR4S methodology. There were also discussions on how clubs can lead change and what kind of support they need to implement the school assessment programmes.

In the afternoon there was a practical demonstration led by Rafaela where participants completed a school assessment of pedestrian crossings and road signs in school zones using the SR4S tool. This allowed clubs to learn more about safety upgrades interventions and their efficiency.
