In a major announcement that unites the world of sport with global advocacy for child safety, we’re excited to join the UEFA Foundation for Children, Adidas Foundation और यह 1 टीपी 6 टी to expand the “Legacy for the Future” initiative – a milestone partnership to ensure women and girls can navigate their communities safely to reach the football pitches, schools and community spaces they love.
The novel gender equity project also brings together key partners including the Automobile Club of Moldova, Bosanskohercegovacki Auto-moto Klub (BIHAMK), the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport, iRAP, Partnership for Road Safety, and the Fundatia Crucea Alba to build a safer, more inclusive future where every girl can move, live and thrive.
A Powerful Partnership: Legacy for the Future
The Legacy for the Future project was originally designed by the UEFA Foundation for Children and the Adidas Foundation to dismantle systemic barriers and promote gender equity through sport. Now, with the 1 टीपी 6 टी joining as a major donor and expert partner, the initiative has grown to advance active mobility and address one of the most critical threats to child development: road traffic risk.
By integrating road safety into community sports, the partnership tackles a sobering reality. In regions like Georgia and Moldova, the rate of child casualties on the road is nearly double the EU average. In Georgia alone, the equivalent of 84 football teams of children were killed or injured in 2024. This collaboration is a direct response to those statistics, aiming to create “Streets for Life” for the next generation.
Data-Driven Safety: SR4S and the Youth Engagement App
At the heart of this partnership is the use of cutting-edge technology to identify risks and implement solutions. The initiative leverages two key tools developed by iRAP (the International Road Assessment Programme):
- स्कूलों के लिए स्टार रेटिंग (SR4S): This evidence-based tool allows partners to conduct road safety assessments around schools and football clubs. The Star Rating on surrounding road safety infrastructure provides local authorities the data needed to justify life-saving infrastructure upgrades, such as new pedestrian crossings, reduced speeds, improved lighting and signage, and traffic-calming measures.
- युवा सहभागिता ऐप (YEA): The YEA empowers young athletes to identify and report road safety conditions around their sporting venues and schools. This ensure that infrastructure improvements are co-created with the youth they are designed to protect.
In addition, the project aims to deliver interactive workshops combining football skills with road safety education; create a replicable, scalable and sustainable model for integrating critical thinking, debating, dreaming and world-building exercises into self-defence training for girls living and studying in underprivileged communities; increase personal safety in school and sport; and leverage football networks to mobilise communities, engage parents and influence local decision-makers in support of safe and inclusive journeys.
A Global Vision for Change
While the initial focus includes pilot projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, and Romania, the ambition of the UEFA and FIA Foundations is truly global. By leveraging the massive reach of football networks to influence local decision-makers, the partnership is creating a scalable blueprint for community safety.
This announcement is a celebration of what can be achieved when organizations share a vision of empowerment. Together, the UEFA Foundation for Children, Adidas Foundation and the FIA Foundation are ensuring that the “Legacy for the Future” is one where every girl can dream, play, and travel with the safety and dignity they deserve.
