Initiative brings road safety to 40 schools near highways – Educational institutions located near highways managed by six EPR concessionaires will be evaluated according to the project’s guidelines.

With the goal of promoting social development in the regions where it operates, EPR is launching the “Living Together in Schools” program . Forty educational institutions will receive assessments to determine the best measures to protect students during their commute between home and school.

The highway concession operator is launching the initiative with six of its concessionaires in Minas Gerais and Paraná. Approximately 20,000 students will benefit.

The “Living Together in Schools” program was created within the “Living Together” Program , launched by EPR in September 2025 as an initiative for education, operation, and dialogue with users and communities.

The urgency of the initiative is evident: every year, according to the UN, 1.35 million people die in traffic accidents and between 30 and 50 million are injured . Among children and young people aged 5 to 29, road accidents are already the leading cause of death in the world.

In practice, this means that every day, 500 children lose their lives in preventable accidents , often just meters from their schools.

Commitment to road safety in local communities.

The initiative is based on the company’s vision that safe highways depend on a combination of quality infrastructure and responsible behavior.

According to EPR , when these two factors come together, highways fully fulfill their role in driving economic and social development.

“With the arrival of the Living Together in Schools program, we reinforce our commitment to working with new generations so that road safety is integrated into daily life from an early age. These are lessons that students take with them for life, helping to create a culture of respect and responsibility on the roads ,” says Carlo Framarim, Director of Operations at EPR .

A target that reflects global intentions to reduce road safety.

The project is carried out in partnership with iRAP (International Road Assessment Programme) , a leading global non-profit organization in road safety , present in more than 135 countries and with consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council.

Among the United Nations Global Goals for 2030, a key commitment is to halve the number of road traffic deaths and injuries worldwide.

One of iRAP ‘s tools is the स्कूलों के लिए स्टार रेटिंग (SR4S) , which assesses the safety of roads around schools and assigns a rating from one to five stars.

This methodology, employed in 80 countries and which has already reached half a million children and young people, makes it possible to identify risks, guide investments and prioritize interventions, in order to protect millions of students in different countries.

In Brazil, the “Living Together in Schools” program will be a pioneer in applying SR4S on a large scale, ensuring technical diagnoses and interventions aligned with international best practices.

“Everywhere the project has been implemented, there have been significant changes in the lives of students and the communities they are part of, especially regarding road infrastructure safety and safe speeds”, concludes Julio Urzua, Global Project Director at iRAP .
