Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – समेकित परामर्शदाता समूह (सीसीजी), के साथ साझेदारी में रियाद नगर पालिका and the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), is proud to announce that the project “Improvement of Traffic Safety around Schools and Mosques in Riyadh” has been awarded a prestigious 2025 प्रिंस माइकल इंटरनेशनल रोड सेफ्टी अवार्ड for outstanding achievement in Road Safety Management.
This pioneering program is the world’s largest Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) initiative, covering 300 high-risk school and mosque zones across Riyadh — including 968 schools and 115 mosques. Over 5,000 zones were assessed citywide using iRAP’s global methodology to identify the highest-risk areas. The project integrates data-driven planning, GIS-based prioritization, evidence-based infrastructure upgrades, and community awareness campaigns to protect vulnerable road users and promote safer urban mobility.
Within just 18 months, the initiative has delivered measurable safety improvements. Average site safety ratings increased from 1–2 stars to 4–5 stars under iRAP’s SR4S framework, representing a transformative reduction in risk for thousands of children and pedestrians. Engineering upgrades, such as raised crossings, protected school gateways, 30 km/h speed zones, and intelligent traffic controls, have been complemented by education and enforcement measures to sustain behavioral change.
Engineer Fahed Abujaber, CEO at CCG, noted: “This award is a testament to Saudi Arabia’s commitment to Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program, ensuring safer environments for students and worshippers. We are proud to support Riyadh Municipality and iRAP in setting a new global benchmark for citywide road safety.”
Engineer Ala’ Husni Al-Soud, Executive Director of Infrastructure at CCG, added: “By combining local data, advanced analytics, and international best practices, we built a model that not only enhances safety but also guides future urban planning decisions. The success of this initiative demonstrates how data-driven design can save lives.”
Greg Smith, CEO at iRAP, emphasized the program’s global significance: “We congratulate the Riyadh Municipality and CCG on this well-deserved win. Star Rating for Schools has supported partners in 80 countries to assess the safety of their school zones and inform evidence-based road infrastructure improvements. The Riyadh Project is a global exemplar in scale and commitment to improve road safety and reduce risks for vulnerable schoolchildren and pedestrians.”
The Riyadh Municipality has already begun the preparations for implementing the engineering designs for all 300 sites (school zones), with Phase II expansion plans underway to include additional schools across the city. This sustained multi-year effort supports Saudi Vision 2030, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3, 4, and 11), and the global goal of halving road deaths and injuries by 2030.
