2-4 December 2024:<\/strong> 35 members from Botswana\u2019s Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) and Botswana Traffic Police attended training on Star Rating for Schools (SR4S). The training was hosted by Emergency Assist 991 (EA991)<\/a>\u00a0in collaboration with International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), and\u00a0Society of Road Safety Ambassadors (SORSA)<\/a>\u00a0in Gaborone, Botswana. Spanning 3 days, the training aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to assess road safety risks around school zones using SR4S.<\/p>\n The first day kicked off with opening remarks by Paul Setswe, EA991\u2019s Road Safety Coordinator, and Chiseki Chiseki, EA991 Chief Executive Officer, followed by Simon Modisaemang, EA991 Executive Director and President of the Africa Council for Touring and Automobile (ACTA) who set the tone for the agenda ahead. Nathalie Chiavassa, iRAP\u2019s Safer Journeys Lead for Africa, introduced key elements of conducting school assessments using the SR4S tool and facilitated practical sessions on coding road attributes with the SR4S coding guide.<\/p>\n The program also offered hands-on learning opportunities through site visits to schools in Gaborone. Participants applied their newfound knowledge to assess road attributes using the tablets distributed on day one.
