Users will be able to generate a Bicyclist Star Rating as well as a Pedestrian Star Rating from the same coding workflow, giving a fuller picture of the risks facing vulnerable road users, including children who walk or cycle to school.

A new Zero-Star Rating band. Shown in purple, Zero-Star identifies road sections with extremely high levels of risk. These were previously grouped within the 1-Star band alongside other high-risk conditions. Separating them out helps road authorities and other stakeholders prioritise the most dangerous locations for urgent action.

What happens to existing assessments? Existing results stay as they are. Locations created before the launch will receive default bicyclist attribute values, and published or processed locations keep their Pedestrian Star Ratings unchanged. Users can choose to reprocess earlier 1-Star assessments, for example to keep a project consistent or to compare pre- and post-intervention results.

To help users prepare, iRAP has published a Frequently Asked Questions guide and a short video walkthrough of the upgrade.

Read the FAQ

Watch the video

Questions?
