2nd World Youth Assembly (18 February)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Over 160 Youth Leaders from 75 countries gathered together at this one day event to take action on the biggest public health threat of their time: road traffic crashes.<\/p>\n
As part of the #ClaimingOurSpace programme, Rafaela Machado (SR4S Programme Coordinator) co-led a Safe School Zone parallel session with Alex Ayub, YOURS\u2019<\/a> Youth Stars Master Trainer. The parallel workshop had 21 participants who learnt the main features of safe road infrastructure and how SR4S can support the implementation of these solutions.<\/p>\n
Attendees participated in brainstorming and icebreaker activities, a quiz on safer road elements and real-life coding examples to demonstrate how Star Rating works.<\/p>\n

Global Alliance People’s Exhibition (19 – 20 February)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Held in parallel to the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, the People\u2019s Exhibition, hosted by the Global Alliance of NGO\u2019s for Road Safety<\/a>, raised awareness among passersby and delegates at the conference. It occupied a space at the bottom of the stairs from the ministerial conference to Stockholm Central Station, the main transport hub of the city.<\/p>\n
The People’s Exhibition featured a pile of shoes representing the 3,700 lives lost on the world\u2019s roads every year. VIPs and NGOs added shoes to the pile, some of them bringing the shoes of their loved ones.<\/p>\n
As part of the exhibition, the SR4S secretariat delivered two demonstrations at the Speakers’ Corner, raising awareness of the Star Rating for Schools app and recent updates to Alliance members and a broader audience.<\/p>\n

FIA Delegation Meeting (18 February)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
This official meeting saw 62 delegates from 32 countries meet in preparation for the official Third Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety<\/strong><\/a>. The meeting was opened by Jean Todt,\u00a0<\/strong>President of the\u00a0FIA<\/a> and UN Secretary General\u2019s Special Envoy for Road Safety and Lord Robertson of Port Ellen,\u00a0<\/strong>Chairman of the FIA Foundation <\/a>provided an introduction.<\/p>\n
iRAP was invited to introduce the FIA club delegates to SR4S, outlined how they could get involved in using the tool to make school journeys safer in their member communities.<\/p>\n
FIA members have delivered 3-star or better journeys to schools worldwide on every continent from Morocco to Nepal, and South East Europe to Latin America.\u00a0 To support the global potential of member clubs, FIA has developed the FIA SR4S Toolkit, an online repository outlining the steps to action with templates and supporting material to help clubs in establishing school assessment projects.<\/p>\n

iRAP’s Innovation Workshop 2020 (17 – 18 February)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
The 2020 Innovation Workshop, hosted by\u00a0iRAP,<\/a>\u00a0World Bank<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0International Transport Forum,\u00a0<\/a>brought together 140 road safety advocates, experts and stakeholders from 32 countries around the world.\u00a0 During the session ‘Celebrating Wins: From Local to Global Success’ on Day 2, SR4S representative Julio Urzua outlined Star Rating for Schools. With the theme \u201cAchieving the UN Road Safety Targets by 2030\u201d, presentations at the Innovation Workshop 2020 explored how innovation in planning, design, financing, upgrading roads and sharing success can help to provide the global structure needed to deliver the UN Global Road Safety Targets 3 and 4, harness the power of big data to save lives, create safer cities and journeys for vulnerable road users, and secure investment for impact on scale.<\/p>\n
