{"id":831,"date":"2019-08-02T01:02:39","date_gmt":"2019-08-02T01:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.starratingforschools.org\/?p=831"},"modified":"2019-08-21T23:31:36","modified_gmt":"2019-08-21T23:31:36","slug":"experts-learn-how-to-use-the-sr4s-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starratingforschools.org\/es\/2019\/08\/experts-learn-how-to-use-the-sr4s-tool\/","title":{"rendered":"Expertos en prevenci\u00f3n de lesiones infantiles aprenden a utilizar la herramienta SR4S en PrevCon 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section bb_built=&#8221;1&#8243;][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_3&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.76&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<pre>Image credit: Shane O'Connor,<a href=\"https:\/\/fedexcares.com\/\">Fedex<\/a><\/pre>\n<p><strong>July 2019: <\/strong>As part of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prevcon.org\/\">\u00a0Safe Kids Worldwide Childhood Injury Prevention Convention<\/a> (PrevCon) this year (17 &#8211; 20 July, Washington D.C.), iRAP\u2019s Julio Urzua facilitated a Star Rating for Schools workshop and field assessment where he demonstrated how the the app can help make school communities safer and help save children\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.76&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Julio also presented the Star Rating For Schools app at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childhealthinitiative.org\/\">Child Health Initiative<\/a> partners meeting,\u00a0discussing directly with child safety experts across the world how we can collaborate to create safer journeys for school children.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.76&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>As part of the PrevCon, in the parallel session 4 \u201cPedestrian Safety: Safe School Zones&#8221;, we also celebrated the achievements from our Lead Partners including:<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.76&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mirjam Sidik<\/strong> from<a href=\"https:\/\/aip-foundation.org\/\"> AIP Foundation <\/a><em>(pictured right) <\/em>shared the results of road upgrades in 4 schools out of 37 assessed along a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Vietnam using the SR4S tool. Schools zones have now been made safer, with pre and post construction SR4S assessments indicating improvement from 1-3 stars to 4-5 stars in road safety. See the improvements in Guaymallen <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YK2NljkZT9U\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.76&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beth Oestreich <\/strong><em>(pictured right)\u00a0<\/em>from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.safekids.org\/coalition\/safe-kids-north-dakota\">Safe Kids North Dakota<\/a> presented SR4S assessment results around Kindred Elementary School. The assessments have helped to raise awareness of the safety of students\u2019 routes along the roads near the school and to push for road improvements. The assessment shows that parking and traffic management and improvements in crossing facilities can lead to a safety rating increase from 3 to 4 stars.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.76&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.safekids.org\/\">Safe Kids<\/a> has been supporting Star Rating for Schools since its early conception in Mexico (2013). As part of the pilot phase of development, Safe Kids Worldwide has been working with 80 coalitions for pilot assessments of SR4S in the United States. The activities have included the provision of training and complementary materials and support for their school assessments across the country.<\/p>\n<p>This event was a fantastic way to reach the community of child injury prevention experts and demonstrate how the collaborations with SR4S lead partners are making the journey for school children safer around the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About PrevCon:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prevcon.org\/\">Safe Kids Worldwide Childhood Injury Prevention Convention<\/a>, or PrevCon, connects child injury prevention professionals and empowers them to make a stronger impact.
